I'll gladly make a free heart rock reminder for you. It's a simple way that I can gift you 10-20 minutes of my life to remind you for the rest of yours that you matter, you are loved, you are not alone, and that the world is a better place because you are in it! The heart I make for you will be from a stone I picked up locally, most likely during a hike. It will certainly be one-of-a-kind! Expect it to be unpolished, in its natural state, and show signs of my craftsmanship.

WHY DO I DO THIS?

It's quite simple, actually: I live with bipolar disorder and often experience immense sorrow. I use my art, making stone hearts, as a form of art therapy. Then, I use my "Tom-Made" hearts to remind myself (while reminding others) that I matter, I am loved, and I am not alone. Every heart I make is another opportunity to remind myself that I am enough. 

HOW MANY HEARTS HAVE I MADE?

Since I began keeping count in 2019, I have made over 27,000 hearts on my trusty 10-inch modified tile saw (that's over 8,000 hours of rock carving--approximately even to how many hours the average high schooler spends in school!)

Each heart is made following the same process: cut a flat slab, dry it, trace on a heart, cut out the heart (30+ individual cuts), grind off the sharp edges, dry thoroughly, and (if it's a soft stone I add a step by spraying it with a coat or two of lacquer to harden it and enhance its color). Then, I package and mail it. 

Depending on how soft or hard the stone is, it will usually take me somewhere between 10-20 minutes to cut, shape, and grind your heart to its final form. 

YOU CAN MAKE HEARTS TOO

Use your heart rock as a stencil to make duplicate paper hearts. That way YOU can make and give a heart reminder to everyone in your household, your neighborhood, school, place of employment, etc.

If you need more than one heart for your household, you'll need to purchase them. These "Tom-Made" hearts are $10 each. The polished hearts on my website (the hearts found in STEP II: Remind Others) are handmade by my fellow stonecarver artist friends employed though my nonprofit organization.
